A kanji routine that survives a full-time job

22 May 2026 · 5 min read

Twenty minutes a day, three review types and one rule about skipping — the system our N2 students use.

Twenty minutes beats two hours on Sunday. Spaced repetition only works if the intervals are respected, and intervals collapse the moment you batch reviews into one weekly session.

Rotate three review types: recognition (kanji to meaning), production (word to kanji) and reading in context. Recognition alone produces students who can pass a quiz but freeze on a menu.

One rule about skipping: never skip two days in a row. A single missed day costs nothing; two starts a habit that ends the streak.
